Are the friends in the laboratory often confused by the differences between PCR tubes, EP tubes, and eight-tube tubes? Today I will introduce the differences and characteristics of these three

1.  PCR tube

PCR tubes are commonly used consumables in biological experiments. For example, Cotaus®PCR tubes are mainly used to provide containers for PCR (polymerase chain reaction) experiments, which can be applied to mutation, sequencing, methylation, molecular cloning, gene expression, Genotyping, medicine, forensic science and other fields. A common PCR tube is composed of a tube body and a cover, and the tube body and the cover are connected together.

The earliest PCR instrument did not have a hot cover. During the PCR process, the liquid at the bottom of the tube would evaporate to the top. The convex cover (that is, the round top) was designed to facilitate the evaporation of the liquid to condense and flow down. However, the current PCR instrument is basically a hot cover type. The temperature at the top of the PCR cover is high and the temperature at the bottom is low. The liquid at the bottom is not easy to evaporate to the top, so most of them use flat covers.

2. EP tube

Because the centrifuge tube was first invented and produced by Eppendorf, it is also called EP tube.

The biggest difference between  PCR tubes and microcentrifuge tubes is that microcentrifuge tubes generally have thicker tube walls to ensure the centrifugation requirements, while PCR tubes have thinner tube walls to ensure heat transfer speed and uniformity. Therefore, the two cannot be mixed in practical applications, because thinner PCR tubes may burst due to inability to withstand large centrifugal forces; similarly, thicker microcentrifuge tubes will affect the effect of PCR due to slow heat transfer and uneven heat transfer.

3.eight tubes

Due to the heavy workload in batch testing and the inconvenient operation of a single tube, eight tubes in rows were invented. Cotaus®PCR 8-strip tube is made of imported polypropylene, and the tube cover is matched with the tube body, which has excellent sealing performance. At the same time, it has strong adaptability and can meet different experimental purposes.
